About Amanda
I’ve spent my career making sense of complexity.
For more than 15 years, my career has revolved around a simple question: What are we trying to achieve — and what needs to happen to get us there?

I began my career in software development before moving into business analysis, where I found myself increasingly drawn to the space between strategy and execution.
Business Analysts often operate between different worlds.
We listen to what a business is trying to achieve, understand the constraints, challenge assumptions, translate requirements and work with teams to turn an objective into something that can actually be delivered.
That way of thinking has shaped far more than my career.
From technology to strategy
My professional background spans technology, financial services, insurance and business transformation.
I have worked across organisations including Worldpay, Institutional Investor and BPL Global, where I spent nine years working within the specialist Credit and Political Risk Insurance market.
My work has included digital transformation, product development, regulatory and operational change, process redesign and technology implementation.
Over time, I became increasingly interested not only in how organisations deliver change, but in the decisions sitting above it:
- Why do some businesses grow while others stall?
- Why are good ideas sometimes impossible to execute?
- How should businesses decide where to focus?
- How do organisations become ready for investment?
- And how do capital, strategy and execution interact?
Expanding the lens
One skill, many expressions
That curiosity led me to complete an MSc in International Business and Harvard Business School Online’s Design Thinking and Innovation programme, while developing a broader portfolio across entrepreneurship, investment and governance.
Today, my work spans
- 01Business analysis and transformation
- 02Business and growth strategy
- 03Investment readiness and capital
- 04Entrepreneurship
- 05Thought leadership
- 06Governance and advisory work
They may appear to be different disciplines, but to me they are connected by the same fundamental skill:
understanding where something is, determining where it needs to go and creating the structure to bridge the gap.
Building
Beyond the day job
I am the founder of Western Square Capital, an advisory and capital-access business working with African businesses, projects and investors. I also created On Strategy With Amanda, where I share perspectives on business, career, capital and growth.
My wider work includes Her Work Day, a platform centred on ambitious women in careers and entrepreneurship, and The Frances Ushedo Foundation, which focuses on opportunities for children and young people through health and education.
Beyond titles
I am interested in the places where disciplines intersect. Much of the work I want to do over the next chapter of my career will live within those intersections.
- Technology and business.
- Africa and global capital.
- Strategy and implementation.
- Commercial growth and impact.
- Experience and reinvention.
Whether I am analysing a business process, advising a founder, contributing to a board conversation, speaking on a panel or building one of my own ventures, my approach remains the same:
ask better questions, understand the real problem and build deliberately from there.
